The State
Department of Health, Cleft Palate Section in November 1969 approved
the Northwestern Pennsylvania Cleft Palate Institute (Institute) as
an operational clinic.

The
Institute was incorporated as a non-profit corporation on April 11,
1973.

The
Institute is one of eleven state recognized centers authorized to
provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment plans for newborns &
children presenting craniofacial anomalies (cleft lip/palate).

The
Institute is located at Hamot Medical Center Complex.

The
Institute’s clinical team includes twenty-nine (29) volunteers who
represent all areas of medical, dental, communication, nursing and
psychological disciplines.

The
Institute is a member of the PA Federation of Cleft Palate Clinics
and The American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association.

All Team
members are appropriately certified in their specialty.

The Team
meets monthly to provide diagnostic services and guidance to
patients and families.

The Board
of Directors is a fourteen-member community represented group. The
Board is responsible for the operation of the organization.

A
part-time Clinical Director (one day weekly) is responsible for the
daily operation of program/service management.

A
secretary is employed for thirty hours weekly.

Dental
Auxiliary volunteers assist at each monthly clinic.
